Some random illustrations for a poet's group "honu loo loo" that i am currently involved in...My friends write the stuff and i try to keep up with their visual machinery and illustrate..

these are some of the backgrounds for a film that i'm working on currently.It's a film on my city Kolkata..the film tries to capture the essence of the olden days and hence the sepiatic tones.

Some very frustratin course work leads to the mindless scribbles in the back of my sketchbooks and since my school days i had the habit of scribbling behind the text books..well the habit has'nt left me nd these mindless scribbles which i fondly called "hijibiji" has been an integral part of what i think and create..Thus bringin these scribbles to the fore for the many scribblers who share this habit

And Bhotbhot''s journey continues from the top cop to the bollywoodhero trying to save his damsel in distress..something inspired from the Mithun da films i grew up watching...

Did these cartoons as a part of the "chitrakatha newsletter"..was fun coming up with the random joke and illustratin it..

From the script to the final visuals it was quite a journey..It was great telling the story of Bhotbhoti Maiti the regular Indian autodriver and his fantasy about his heroic exploits from the international news to the local fims...Although based in kolkata with a slight tinge of the mithun da's and that bong humor i kinda feel it's an everyday indian story with the local kolkata flavour..Probably for me the time spent in creating him was one of the most exciting month in nid from it's research to it's execution....and i'm glad finally everything fell into place..

The initial layouts get discarded andstacked below under the heap of the final product..but i guess these sketches lying in one of the corners of my trunk where the base for my comic book and does deserve their little place under the sun..so just uploadin a couple of them...

"bidroho" and "adda"

Another of my characters..developed during the visual scripting workshop. This man Bidrohi sen is our old bong who travels through the many by-lanes of Kolkata to find his own in those regular joints of adda..My script dealt with dying art of public conglomorations and Bidrohi the last lone ranger to hold it back...It was a challenge dealing witha topic like this and creating Bidrohi's space with the couple of other characters

Did this for a competition on climate change ..hope the cartoon speaks for itself so wud'nt waste time explainin it..

hisi hisi and hozojuju....

Apart from coming up with the wierd names i had great fun designing this character who is extremely close to my heart..Developed from an early story which i wrote...The Mongolian wizard Hisi-Hisi is an extremely helpful wizard with an enchanting smile..He's a very humble tribute to my childhood days of Ray and goopy-bagha..

irfan bhai and his garage

Another of my character design characters...irfan bhai a young mechanic with his garage and armed witha dream to make it big in theautomobile sector..It was interesting to get a peek into his world and fun moulding him from his real self to an animated character...

Was a bit of challenge trying to bring back the charm of an old black and white Bong..with all his quintessential dhotis and glasses..an ode to the old from the new breed...
